In your chats, swipe the chat to the left and tap Delete. The app asks first. The messages go for you only, and the other person keeps theirs.
Delete a chat
- Tap the speech bubble at the top of Home.
- Swipe the chat to the left. Four buttons show, and Delete is the last one.
- Tap Delete. The app asks Delete this chat?
- Tap Delete.
You can also delete it from inside the chat: tap their name at the top, then Delete chat.
What happens
- The messages are gone for you, and the chat leaves your list. There’s no way to get them back.
- The other person still has every message, and isn’t told.
- If either of you sends a new message, the chat comes back with only the new messages in it.
- If it doesn’t work, the app says The chat couldn’t be deleted. Please try again.
The other swipe buttons
The same swipe has Read or Unread, Mute or Unmute, and Pin or Unpin, which keeps the chat at the top of your list. Unread and pinned are kept on this phone only.
The website can’t delete chats yet.
