Start a new chat on the website
- Open the person’s profile and click Message.
- Write in the box at the bottom, and press Enter or click the send button.
To carry on a chat, click Messages in the menu and pick it from the list.
A chat is always between two people. Ayyam has no group chats.
Who you can message
Everyone chooses who can start a chat with them. If someone only takes messages from people they follow, or from people they follow back, their profile has no Message button for you. A chat you already have with them carries on as before.
Good to know
- A message can be up to 4,000 characters.
- Messages can’t be edited after you send them. You can delete one and send it again.
- The number on the speech bubble is how many chats have messages you haven’t read. Muted chats aren’t counted.
- To react to someone’s message, double-tap it for ❤️, or press and hold it and pick one of six. Tap the reaction under it to take it off. You can’t react to your own messages.
- The search box at the top of your chats finds chats by name. It doesn’t search what was said.
- The website sends text only. Its New message, photo and voice buttons aren’t ready yet.
