Press and hold the message, then tap Delete for me or Delete for all. Delete for all is on the messages you sent, and works no matter how long ago you sent them.
Delete a message
- Open the chat.
- Press and hold the message, photo or voice message.
- Tap Delete for me or Delete for all.
It happens right away. The app doesn’t ask first.
Delete for me or for all
- Delete for me takes it out of your chat only. The other person still has it. It works on their messages too.
- Delete for all removes your message for both of you. In its place, you both see This message was deleted.
To delete a photo from Media, open it full screen, tap ⋯, and pick one of the same two.
Good to know
- Messages can’t be edited. To fix a typo, delete the message and send it again.
- On someone else’s message, the menu also has Report. The moderators get a copy of that message to review, not the rest of the chat. To report the person, tap their name at the top of the chat, then Report.
- The website can’t delete messages yet. A message deleted for all shows there as Message deleted.
