A story stays up for 24 hours from when it goes up. Then it disappears from Home, the Stories tab and your profile, along with the list of who watched it and the replies and reactions it got. A story you pinned stays on your profile.
When the 24 hours start
- For a photo, the moment you share it.
- For a video, or anything that has to be checked first, when it actually goes up. Time spent on Processing or In review doesn’t count.
The top of each story says how long ago it went up.
What disappears with it
- The story itself, for everyone.
- Who watched it, and the replies and reactions.
- Its place in Universe, the Stories deck for people who don’t follow you.
Keep a story longer
Pin it. A pinned story stays on your profile after the 24 hours, and keeps its view count.
Good to know
- A photo plays for 5 seconds. A video plays for as long as it is.
- If you have more than 20 stories up at once, people see your newest 20.
- While a photo or video is in a story, it can’t be deleted from your Uploads. The app says This is in your story. Delete the story first, or wait until it ends.
