Share a post to your story
Share a post to your story in the app
- Tap the repost button under the post, the two arrows.
- Tap Add to your status. It says Temporary. Disappears after 24 hours.
- Write something about it if you like, up to 200 characters.
- Tap Repost. Added to your story tells you it worked.
The share button under the post has a quicker way: tap Add to story. That one adds no words.
Share a post to your story on the website
- Click the repost button under the post.
- Click Add to your status, write something if you like, and click Add to story.
The send window has Add to story too.
What people see
- The post, with its owner’s name on a label. Tapping the label opens the original post.
- Your words, if you added any, under the post.
- Who can see it: anyone, if your account is public, or only your followers, if it’s private. The app shows this as Everyone or Followers.
Posts you can’t share
Someone else’s post that’s only for a circle, or set to Only me, can’t go in your story. Your own posts always can.
To keep a post on your profile instead of for 24 hours, repost it to your feed. See What’s the difference between reposting to my feed and to my status?
To put a new post in your story as you share it, use the Story switch on New post instead.
