Turn on Story under SHARE AS before you tap Share post. The post’s first photo or video also goes up as a story, which disappears after 24 hours.
Share to your story
- Make your post as usual.
- On New post, under SHARE AS, turn on Story. Permanent post above it is always on: that’s the post itself.
- Tap Share post.
What goes in the story
- The first photo or video only, the one that’s the post’s cover.
- The caption, if it’s 200 characters or fewer. A longer caption is left off, and the story goes up without it.
- Like any story, it’s seen by whoever can see your stories: anyone, if your account is public, or only your followers, if it’s private.
If the post goes up but the story doesn’t, the app says Your post is up, but it couldn’t be added to your story.
When it won’t share to your story
- Audience is a circle or Only me. A story isn’t limited to the people you chose, so the switch is replaced by Would go to all followers.
- The post is scheduled. A story goes up when it’s made, so the app stops you with You cannot schedule a story. Turn Story off to schedule the post, or share it now.
The website has the same Share as switches and works the same way.
