A photo or video can’t be deleted from Uploads while something on your account still shows it. The app tells you what’s using it. Take it out of there first, and then the delete works.
What the message means
| The app says | What to do |
|---|---|
| This is used in a post and can’t be deleted | Delete the post first. The item says how many posts use it, like In 2 posts, and every one of them has to go. |
| A post waiting to be published uses this. Delete that post first. | A post with it is still processing or in review. Delete that post from your profile, or wait until it’s out. |
| This is your profile picture. Change it first, then delete it. | Pick another profile picture, or remove it, in Edit profile. |
| This is your cover photo. Change it first, then delete it. | Change or remove your cover photo first. |
| This is in your story. Delete the story first, or wait until it ends. | Delete the story, or wait the 24 hours until it’s gone. |
| This is in a story you pinned. Unpin it first, then delete it. | Unpin the story from your profile first. |
Deleting a post doesn’t delete its photos and videos. They stay in Uploads, and once nothing else uses them you can delete them there.
Delete an upload
- Open Settings and tap Uploads, under Content.
- Tap the photo or video.
- Tap Delete Photo or Delete Video, then Delete to confirm.
It’s deleted for good, and it can’t be brought back.
Warning: A scheduled post doesn’t stop you deleting what’s in it. If you delete a photo or video that a scheduled post uses, that post won’t go out when its time comes.
The website shows your uploads but can’t delete them.
