Open TEXT in the editor and tap Add text. Type, tap Done, and the text lands in the middle of the picture. Drag it into place. This is text on the picture itself: the caption under your post is written on New post.
Open the text tools
- On a photo, tap TEXT at the bottom of the editor. The text tools have their own row at the top: TEXT, STICKER, DRAW and CAPTIONS.
- On a video, tap Next on Trim, then Next on Clip settings. The third screen, Text, has the same four at the bottom.
Add text
- Tap Add text.
- Type your text.
- Tap Done, or tap anywhere outside the box.
- Drag the text where you want it. Pinch with two fingers to make it bigger or smaller, and twist them to turn it.
Near the middle of the picture, the text snaps to the centre, and a guide line shows that it did.
Change how it looks
Choose these before you type, or tap the text first to change it.
- The font: Classic, Modern, Serif, Type, Script or Display.
- The colour: tap a circle, or + at the end of the row for any colour.
- The alignment: the button next to A switches between left, centre and right.
- STYLE: each tap goes one step further, from Plain to Shadow, Outline and Filled. The later ones are easier to read on a busy picture.
Change or remove text
- To change the words, tap the text, then Edit text.
- To remove it, tap it and tap Delete. Deleting all the words does the same.
Good to know
- There’s no undo. To start again, delete the text and add it anew.
- CAPTIONS doesn’t work yet. It says AUTOMATIC CAPTIONS ARE NOT BUILT YET.
- On a video, you can choose when the text shows.
- The website can’t add text to a photo or video.
