Open the photo in the editor and tap CROP at the bottom. Pick a shape, drag the frame, and turn the photo with Rotate, Flip or the straighten dial. Your original photo stays as it was. Only the post is cropped.

Open the editor

  • Pick one photo and tap Next. It opens in the editor, on CROP.
  • If you picked several, they go straight to New post. Tap a photo’s thumbnail there to edit it.

Crop a photo

  1. Tap CROP at the bottom of the editor.
  2. Pick a shape: 4:5, Original, 1:1, 9:16 or 16:9.
  3. Drag a corner of the frame to resize it, or drag the middle to move it.
  4. Tap Done.

Original starts with the whole photo and lets you drag the frame to any shape. The other four keep the frame in their shape. There’s no pinch to zoom here: the corners do that job.

Rotate, flip or straighten

  • Rotate turns the photo a quarter turn clockwise each time you tap it.
  • Flip mirrors it left to right. It stays highlighted while it’s on, and a second tap turns it off.
  • Drag the dial under STRAIGHTEN to tilt the photo up to 15 degrees either way. The frame stays inside the photo, so no empty corners show.
  • Reset brings back the whole photo, with no turn, flip or tilt.

To turn a photo upside down, tap Rotate twice. To flip it top to bottom, do that with Flip on.

Crop a video

  1. Pick one video and tap Next. It opens on Trim.
  2. Tap Crop in the row of tools at the bottom.
  3. Use the same shapes and controls, then tap Done to go back to Trim.

Clip settings, the next screen, has four of the shapes too, under FRAME.

Good to know

  • The ✕ at the top left closes the editor and keeps your changes.
  • Your edits stay with the photo until you post, so you can open it again from New post and carry on.
  • The website can’t crop or rotate. It posts photos as they are.
