With two-factor authentication on, signing in takes two steps: your password, then a 6-digit code from the authenticator app you set up, such as Google Authenticator or 1Password. The code is made on your phone, so nothing is sent to you and there’s nothing to wait for.
This applies however you sign in: with your email, your phone number, or Google or Apple.
- Sign in as usual. After your password, Two-factor authentication opens.
- Open your authenticator app and find Ayyam.
- Type the 6-digit code it shows and tap Verify & Continue.
The code changes every 30 seconds. If it’s about to change, wait for the next one. If codes keep failing, check that your phone’s date and time are set automatically: authenticator codes depend on the clock.
Use a recovery code instead
If your authenticator app isn’t with you, tap Use a recovery code and type one of the codes you saved when you turned this on. They look like A1B2C-3D4E5, and you can leave out the dash.
- Each recovery code works once.
- You got 10 of them. Settings → Security → Recovery codes shows how many you have left.
- Running low? Get new codes gives you 10 fresh ones, and the old ones stop working.
To go back to the 6-digit code, tap Use the authenticator app.
Wrong codes
After 5 wrong codes, the app quietly starts a new check, so you can keep trying with the current code. Wrong codes also count toward your account’s limit: after 10 wrong tries, signing in is paused for 15 minutes. See It says “Too many attempts”.
Note: Resetting your password doesn’t turn two-factor authentication off. After a reset you’ll still be asked for a code.
On the website
Signing in on ayyam.com works the same way: your password, then a code from your authenticator app or a recovery code.
If you’ve lost your phone or your authenticator app, see I can’t get into my authenticator app.
