If the phone with your authenticator app is lost, broken or wiped, you have two ways back in: a recovery code, or another phone that’s still signed in to your account.
Resetting your password won’t get you past this step. Two-factor authentication stays on after a reset, and the code is still asked for.
Sign in with a recovery code
When you turned on two-factor authentication, Ayyam gave you 10 recovery codes to save. Each one can take the place of the 6-digit code once.
- Sign in with your password as usual.
- On Two-factor authentication, tap Use a recovery code.
- Type one of your saved codes and tap Verify & Continue.
Once you’re in, set up your new phone straight away:
- Go to Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication.
- Tap Turn off two-factor authentication and enter your password.
- Tap Set up and add Ayyam to the authenticator app on your new phone.
This gives you 10 new recovery codes. Save them somewhere other than your phone.
Use a phone that’s still signed in
If you’re still signed in to the Ayyam app on another phone, turn two-factor authentication off there: Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication → Turn off two-factor authentication. It asks for your password. You can then sign in on your new phone with just your password, and turn two-factor authentication back on.
If your account has no password because you only ever used Google or Apple, turning it off asks for an authenticator or recovery code instead.
Note: Two-factor authentication can’t be managed on ayyam.com yet. It has to be done in the app.
If you have neither
Without a recovery code or a phone that’s still signed in, you can’t get past the code step from the sign-in screen.
Write to us at ayyam.com/support, which works without signing in. Choose I can’t sign in, and give the username, phone number or email address of the account.
Before it happens
- Keep your recovery codes somewhere you can reach without your phone, like a password manager or a printed copy.
- Check how many you have left in Settings → Security → Recovery codes, and tap Get new codes when you’re running low.
- Some authenticator apps can back up or move your codes to a new phone. Turn that on in your authenticator app if it offers it.
