With two-factor authentication on, signing in asks for your password and then a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. Someone who learns your password still can’t get in without that code. You need an authenticator app first, such as Google Authenticator or 1Password.
Turn it on
- On Home, tap your profile picture at the top to open Settings, then tap Security.
- Tap Two-factor authentication. While it’s off, the row says Off in red.
- Enter your password and tap Set up.
- Add Ayyam to your authenticator app. If the app is on another phone, scan the QR code with it. If it’s on this phone, tap Open authenticator app, or tap Copy next to Setup key and paste the key into the app.
- Type the 6-digit code your authenticator app now shows for Ayyam, and tap Turn on.
- Save the 10 recovery codes on the next screen, then tap I’ve saved them.
We also email your account’s address to say two-factor authentication is on.
Nothing changes until you tap Turn on. If you stop halfway, or tap Cancel setup, signing in stays as it was.
Warning: The recovery codes are shown only once. Keep them somewhere you can reach without your phone, like a password manager or a printed page. If you lose your phone and don’t have them, you can’t sign in.
If something goes wrong
- No authenticator app was found on this phone. Install one from the App Store or Google Play, or copy the setup key into the app you use.
- That code is not right, or it has expired. Codes change every 30 seconds. Type the one showing now. If they keep failing, check that your phone’s date and time are set automatically.
- That password is not right. Check the password you entered in step 3.
After you turn it on
- Other devices that are already signed in stay signed in.
- Every new sign-in asks for a code after your password, whether you use your email, your phone number, Google or Apple.
- Two-factor authentication can only be turned on and off in the app. On the website, you only use it to sign in.
How do I sign in when two-factor authentication is on?
If you signed up with Google or Apple and have no password, step 3 has nothing to enter. Tap Set up straight away.
