Type # and a word in your caption, like #sunset or #غروب. When the post is up, the hashtag is a link. Tapping it opens the hashtag’s page, with its posts and a Follow button.
Add a hashtag
- Type # and then the word, with no space between them. You can also tap #hashtags under the caption to start one.
- Letters in any language work, and so do numbers and _. A space or a punctuation mark ends the hashtag.
- Capital letters don’t matter. #Sunset and #sunset lead to the same page.
- Arabic hashtags work with or without harakat.
The hashtag’s page
- It shows the hashtag, how many posts it has, and Follow.
- Posts are newest first. Posts about the same word show there too, even if they didn’t use the hashtag.
- You only see posts you’re allowed to see. A followers-only post shows to its author’s followers and nobody else.
Following a hashtag gives its posts a place in your feed. To stop, tap Following on its page.
Good to know
- A hashtag needs at least 3 letters or numbers to get a page.
- Up to 12 hashtags in one post count. Any more still look like links, but your post isn’t added to their pages.
- Hashtags in your bio are links too.
- A story’s text has no hashtags. A # there is plain text.
- On the website, hashtags work the same way, and the #hashtags button starts one.
